Sounds very good and I seem to have plenty of upper frequencies with larger top that is spruce rather than mahogany. Both sound very good in their own aspect. Granted there’s no tone control so set your amp accordingly and enjoy it. Adding the second pickup/preamp set confirms this unit is worth the cost and time to install it. I spent less than an hour installing each one with no problems or surprised. I’ll probably add another one to my 12 string and maybe my Hummingbird. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW I’ve been restoring a very old prewar Martin guitar. I decided to go ahead and install an acoustic pickup system that is simple but adequate for my needs. This Ascendas Folk Guitar.pickup system and installation was a breeze. It only needed to use the strap pin to exit the guitar. I already had a hole for the strap pin, it needed enlarging enough to accommodate the preamp/strap pin. Everything else had adhesive Velcro to secure the 9v battery enclosure against the neck block. Also included two sided tape to mount the volume and mic control knobs and the microphone mounts under the top near the bridge. There is an under saddle piezo pickup. It’s the flexible type of piezo that. Is super thin and is much easier to mount than the hard bar type under saddle pickups. I really like this type of pickup as you rarely have to do any bridge shimming or reducing the actual saddle to accommodate the normal hard bar piezo that almost always require removing a 1/16” or more of the existing bridge saddle. The unit is easy for anyone to install and the best part is it doesn’t sound bad at all. I installed mine on an 85 year old Martin 0-15 all Honduran mahogany acoustic guitar. The project didn’t take more than an hour. I run it through a Fender Acoustasonic amp and I couldn’t be happier at the tone. I’m probably going to to order at least two more for some of my other acoustic guitars that I want to amplify. You could do a lot worse for way more money if you don’t care about your bang for your bucks! Review: It sucks - Super quiet (and yes, I know how to install an undersaddle pickup). I have to have my acoustic amp cranked up to get even decent sound. It has almost no low end, so i have to turn my bass knob to full to make it even palatable for an acoustic tone. I took a chance, and lost. It's garbage. At around $30 you get that much sound so I can't complain much about the sound to price. Sounds as good as it costs......which means it's not good. I see other great reviews but maybe they're just looking for amplified sound. This us thin and tinny. I'm using it in a big solid spruce blooming guitar. Again.....I am not knocking it because the price works. The problem is you spend an hour or so putting all of this in and placing everything just right and it just isnt worth it. I would not perform with this. I'd use it for practice but no way am I sitting at a bat or restaurant and playing in front of people. Even my wife said "do you have knobs to make that sound better" Also just fyi I had problems with the jack and got a lot of static. I had to stick my hand in and wiggle wires and it straightened up. Obviously low quality components. Just know what you're getting.
