If you overfill, the ice just protrudes out the top hole, and breaks off when you open to empty the balls. We're not overly concerned about perfect balls of ice, but the large round spheres last a long time when chilling liquids, so a great find. These molds are nice that they do, I feed, make ice balls. My only negative is that both sides are silicone and unless you have a flat spot in your freezer to place these then you will have issues with spillage. Also, slightly squeezing them, which is sort of inevitable, will ooze water out of the little hole on top as well.
