Although I mostly bought this to build my parts inventory, I did intend to build the thing the way it was intended as a potential starting point to future projects. I've already spent a couple of hours just deciding where things are supposed to be mounted and just general layout. My first dilemma was figuring out that the motors needed to be mounted on the yellow base and the clear acrylic was presumably there so that you could see the lower layer of the car through the top. Not a big deal since you're going to want to take everything off so that you can remove the protective paper on the acrylic. But moving the motors then led to the realization that the yellow base is quite thinner than the clear one and the screws were bottoming out on the mounting posts. Also, if you're not careful, the wheels will bind against the sides of the platform. You'll have to make sure you spin them and make sure they move freely before you tighten the screws down... and you'll need some standoff washers if you put the motors on the thinner base.I can only hope that whoever put together the kit built it at least once to make sure all the necessary parts were included and everything fit together and wiring reached all the appropriate places. You'd think if they did a test build, they'd have at least taken a few pictures and put it on a website somewhere.My hope is that this forum will become a help site for this product as more people purchase it. I'll add updates as I continue to put everything together and discuss problems I encounter. ### ⭐ Not for beginners *by R***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2016* Misleading - this is not a project for beginners. My daughter wanted to do a project with me as I've been messing with micro computers like the Raspberry Pi. The initial reviews stated this would be a great beginner's project which is a lie. I'm certain the early reviews were paid for. I still have not got the car to work and I don't know if it's because I did something wrong or if the parts are defective because the documentation is terrible. I've sifted through other websites trying to get some movement on this but each site has its own approach and none of them offer a step-by-step and all of them assume a higher level of knowledge than I have. I really don't appreciate looking incompetent in front of my kid. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Frustrating, opaque, a poor gift for beginners - but doable *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2014* I am shocked this item does not come with any instructions. The instructions that I bought (Make an Arduino-Controlled Robot by Michael Margolis) are somewhat helpful, but as a novice at making such devices I find this product frustrating.The hardware is fine (at least I have faith it will work if put together).
