Better quality elastic will last longer, possibly years; but even that usually gives way after a while. That's why it's best to use elastic to make lower cost items you don't expect to last a lifetime, or beaded items where the beads can be moved to string or another elastic string at some point. If you're using elastic to make things for sale then it might be a good idea to have a warning somewhere stating that elastic isn't meant to last a super-long time. I suggest using glass beads that are not too heavy. This stretchy string holds up pretty well. I only use it to make bracelets & anklets.
