Review: Best motor for direct drive setups - I bought this motor for my Ender 3 Pro to use with a direct drive setup, and it’s been working perfectly. It connects straight to the original stepper motor cables with no adapters or wiring changes needed, which made installation super easy. The motor is strong, reliable, and fits great without any issues. There was no noticeable change in print quality compared to my previous setup, but that’s exactly what I was hoping for — everything works just as reliably as before, just now with the benefits of direct drive like easier filament loading and better handling of flexible materials. If you're upgrading to direct drive on an Ender 3 Pro, this motor is a solid choice.
Review: Amazing affordable motor. Highly recommended - Update: I’ve had this motor and extruder for a while now and have had 0 issues. It is working amazingly well, and has plenty of power to push filament through. The BMG style extruder was something I always wanted to use but I needed a pancake or Slim motor to be able to utilize it. After trying out the TwoTrees Magnetic flexplate I found their quality to be pretty good compared to other manufactures so I decided to purchase their BMG extruder and this Slim Style pancake motor. I was worried about the motor having enough power but it is working amazing with their BmG extruder. The installation instructions were very plain but installing a motor is relatively simple. After double checking that the wiring diagram of the motor and the wiring diagram on the board I am using are the same I proceeded to connect everything. I was lucky that I did not need to change any of the pin orientation but some users might have to change them in order to get the motor to turn in the correct direction. With the instructions followed and everything assembled I started my set of calibration tests. After everything was done I was able to get some fantastic prints with in these last few weeks. This motor and their extruder have been working marvelously and I will update this review if anything changes in the future...

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Why does the rated voltage in the description say 3.6 volts but I see users saying it runs fine with 24 volts.**
A: Because the motor draws its own maximum current when it's fed 3.6 volts, and all stepper drivers (the electronics controlling the stepper motors) are constant-current drivers, meaning that although they may be connected to a 12V source or a 24V source or a 36V source... they always limit the current to the stepper motor to whatever current they're set for (in this case ideally just about 1.0 amperes)... and the stepper drivers will deliver however much voltage to the stepper as is necessary to keep that current constant. This means that the drivers automatically compensate for wiring length and for speed-related inductive losses.

Nobody actually runs any of these steppers at 24V. Ever.

**Q: what are the actual dimensions in mm?**
A: It’s a nema 17. That means it’s 1.7 inches by 1.7 inches, or 43.2 mm x 43.2 mm.

**Q: What is the shaft diameter of this unit?**
A: the Data sheet says 5mm.  I am unable to measure it because it's currently being used.

**Q: I'm having trouble getting the right MV settings.  I had it at one point but it was turning too slowly - at 12mv it's just stuttering**
A: The ones I have work great with no issue, although I did have to swap some wires because of the bipolarity. So, two things: Make sure you set the proper vRef on your stepper driver for your motor. (This maybe different then what it was originally set to), Make sure the motors are the same bipolarity as the ones you replaced, i.e. (A, A\, B, B\). The motors you just purchased will come with a data card compare them to the data on your old ones. Hopefully this helps.

Update: I’ve had this motor and extruder for a while now and have had 0 issues. It is working amazingly well, and has plenty of power to push filament through. The BMG style extruder was something I always wanted to use but I needed a pancake or Slim motor to be able to utilize it. Motor works great, does get hot, so best with a metal or high-temp plastic bracket. Too hot for petg.
