I think the key is that it has a spring loaded head that turns 360 degrees on it's own thanks to a clear plastic fin on the back of it's head that catches the breeze. The motion definitely adds to the realism. It is very light and hollow with a stopper on the bottom so you can fill it with rocks, sand, etc. We used rocks to weight it down. Of course everyone's environment is different so I can't speak for your yard situation but we are in north Texas with a back yard that faces west and our patio has a free standing wooden patio cover if that helps.
