Is it soft, too?** A: No, the white is a hard plastic with a gloss finish, exactly like the finish of the back of the actual phone. In that regard, this elago case does as well as any case can do while still offering some protection.On the positive side, it is thin and doesn't add much bulk or weight to my phone. Perhaps even more importantly, it is less slippery than the S3 is by itself, which is a welcome change, as before I always worried the phone would slip through my fingers if I wasn't careful. The case is a very solid plastic, so there is no fear of it stretching or ripping, and I feel like it should provide good protection. However, the edges only rise about a millimeter above the surface of the screen, so it is questionable how much protection this case will offer if your phone falls down screen first.That last point brings me to the negatives, of which I only really see one. The design of the case around the power button makes it a little awkward to press. So yes, this was admittedly ordered as a go-between case from not being protected to whenever Otterbox inevitably releases their white/gray commuter for the S3. I opted for speedier shipping and it arrived the next evening. Unfortunately, I was not in and UPS/Elago required a signature (safer is better as I live in an apartment complex), but I soon drove to the center where it was dropped off, unpacked it, and placed the beautiful deep gray case on my phone. elago G5 Slim Fit Case for Galaxy S3 (Fits Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and other Carriers) - Soft Feeling Dark Gray - ECO PACK *Mine cost $9.99 with the MSRP $20.99Review:I chose the gray cover as it essentially goes with anything. It pops on the back of the phone easily, yet remains snug and hasn't unintentionally come off since. Intentional removal, however, is a cinch. I only add that last bit as a comparison to a TPU case my friend uses that consistently pulls the back plate off the S3 when removing it. It doesn't seem to offer more grip over the phone's slickness in my opinion, but it covers the rounded portions of the phone very precisely. The case itself takes nothing away from the phone's form factor; actually, it adds to it as it essentially molds a different color to the S3. It's incredibly light, yet does not bend too much being sturdy. The edges of the circular cutout around the camera bend up ever so lightly, protecting the lens should I place it face-up on a table. The power button and volume rocker remain entirely accessible. There is even a minimal "dip" in the case's upper border for the headphone jack to remain usable with jacks that bend. The packaging is a translucent thick plastic sleeve (tear off the top at a marked side). It comes with a little cardboard cut-out advertising their headphones. I'm not sure what the little 'hole' at the top of the phone is exactly used for (voice stabilization/distortion control?), but it is also present in the case. Everything that needs to be accesible is indeed unencumbered. An important note to address that many other reviewers miss: This case does NOT affect screen protectors. The guys at BestBuy Mobile recommended I get the Zagg HD screen protector (despite the Gorilla Glass, I know). My same friend's TPU case has lips that go around the sides of the phone to keep it in place, but they also push in on the shield, causing the sides to bulge, creating lines of air bubbles along the sides. It may not be a case if you don't have a shield, but for me, this case is perfect as I can have the best of both worlds.As an aside, this product only got my attention at first as I had not seen other minimalist cases with such variety, but the pictures simply do not do this grey color justice.... I almost ordered the yellow but the shade in their picture made me go with a safer bet. While I absolutely LOVE this one, I kind of regret not choosing the yellow as it could also be even more solid/vivid than the pictures show.... I recommend googling Elago for better renditions and the ability to make a more informative decision when choosing colors.Yes, I am still awaiting my Otterbox case (I ordered through a third-party even though Otterbox says the case is still unavailable) and I plan on using it. However, this little case is a surprisingly satisfying addition to my S3, setting it apart from others and garnering questions from my friends to see if they make cases for their phone models, too. I may order the yellow version down the road.... It costs more than some, but it's very trendy, well-crafted, and functional. I have recently switched to the Caseology because of first three "con" issues with the Elago.Elago Slim FitPROS--extremely lightweight--extremely thin. Phone still has the feel and weight that makes it great.--it has a slight raised lip around the camera lens. This is very important to allow the speaker to be heard when the phone is laid on a flat surface.CONS--when you squeeze the power button, the Elago case is not thick enough to keep you from also squeezing the volume button. This results in the volume level going down almost every time. Yes, I know: I could work around this by being extremely intentional.--the Elago is a slippery, hard plastic. I like this because it slips into the pocket easily. I dislike this because, well, it's slippery!--the Elago does have a lip above the screen by the slimmest of margins, but it is not enough to keep from accidentally touching the screen and launching something I don't want.--the Elago "creeks" when I squeeze the phone. It's not a big deal but kind of odd.--it has a hole over the top right corner, apparently to accommodate Asian models with pull-up antennas(?)--the opening for the power button was not quite wide enough to allow me to easily reach the button (in contrast to the Caseology). I used an emory board to file it open a little more, which helped.So I prefer the Caseology TPU case for several reasons:--it has a higher lip above the screen. Not only does this protect the screen, it keeps your fingers away from the surface without interfering with access to the screen edges. You can also press the power button without pushing the volume button.--it has a seam around the edges which at first looks like poor workmanship, but in fact, serves to improve the grip--the soft TPU provides better protection from a fall (not yet tested)--the cutout around the volume button is wider so it does not interfere with accessHowever...--the Caseology is slightly heavier and thicker, so it no longer feels like the original thin, light Galaxy.
