Advertised speeds reached! Definitely worth the money.

I'm actually getting near the transfer speeds advertised by the manufacturer. As always, reviews will vary since USB 3.0 speeds will depend on hardward. As always, 4kb speeds are abysmal, but that's to be expected. The unit feels solid (some say too heavy). Personally, I like how heavy it feels, especially since it's an aluminum body. I feel comfortable putting it in my pocket or throwing it in my backpack to be jumbled around. The slide up and down has some resistance, so you don't have to worry about the USB port getting accidentally pushed out in your bag and broken. The flip side to the previously mentioned is that it takes some getting used to deploying it, since the slider is flush with the exception of a small raised arrow on top.As you can see from Crystal Disk, the test results are phenomenal. Especially for the price! They get close to the 400/200 specs the manufacturer touts. I did some real world testing and they are a fair ways off the mark. This is to be expected. For a large 4 GB mkv, I get about 150 mb/s write. Copying from the drive I get about 230 mb/s. While that's pretty hugely different, it's still blazingly fast compared to my previous contender the PNY 128 GB USB 3.0 (which I was already extremely happy with):http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FE2N1WS?keywords=pny%20128%20gb%20usb%203.0&qid=1449878120&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1I can't comment on the consistency yet or the life span of this device, but so far, it looks like a great product.

Oh so pleasing to the touch because of aluminum. Glossy black plastic and sliding mechanism are not overshadowed by speed.

This drive blew my expectations. I frequently have to transfer large Keynote decks for sales presentations or transfer movies spots that might be 30 seconds or longer in HD Apple Pro Res or even RAW formats. It's always nice to have a couple of these, as they're cheap, to make sure that I have fallback for essential data. You can play high definition files right off this drive with an Intel Core i3 or better processor. I can't speak from experience with AMD products, but I'm sure it'll be sufficient if you have something 2011 or later and you have USB 3.0 support on your machine. I even plugged this into the USB port of my Samsung televisions and played 720p and 1080p videos with the television's built in media player. The possibilities with this drive, are quite literally endless if you own other items that can serve up picture or videos from a USB drive. I just keep it formatted FAT32 for easily using Apple's OS X 10.10.5 / 10.11.3 Operation Systems or Windows 7 to Windows 10 or any Linux / appliance like USB supported displays. Some people complain the sliding mechanism is more difficult than competing Sandisk product, but this is actually faster than the Sandisk extreme at the same price point from a similar time window release date. So I'm willing to comprimise on the admittedly slightly cumbersome sliding mechanism. The glossy black is finger print prone, but it's black, so it's not something you'll see unless you're anal and shining in the right angle in the light :). And the aluminum casing that the edges and bottom of this product is so smooth and pleasing to touch. You'll forget about the sliding mechanism. Better yet, it matches your MacBook Retina Space Grey or MacBook Pro Retina machine.

    You Pay for Speed!!

Well build drive with aluminium backing. Pop out USB connecter with locking mechanism - at least it doesn't slide when you have one of those tight USB ports.Dont know if it was me or my laptop, but the first few times, the drive was pathetically slow at first. I've copied 12 GB of music files and it took seven minutes. After accessing the drive about 10 times it is now super fast. I can copy the same 12 gig of files in under one minute. I have not formatted the USB drive or change any file structures. Weird! On my Macbook benchmarking with Xbench, it scores about ~ 205MB/s on write and ~235MB/s on read on a USB 3.0port.Not bad vs the generic cheap USB drive which clocks about 5MB/s write and 20MB/s read. All test are on sequential read and write 256K.Another real life test. Copied photos about 1.3GB worth and each file 8-16mb. Took 3m50s on generic USB drive and took 11sec!!!!! on the lexar!!Just for comparison, - I have an old Intel SSD520 connected with a USB 3.0 SATA adaptor. That clocks in at 240MB/s read and write. Overall, I am very happy with this USB drive at 30 bucks. My hands are itchy though to try thePatriot Rage 2 USB drive. That goes for 55 bucks but for 128 gig. So technically it is cheaper than the Lexar.
