Funny to think the author, Lillian Eichler Watson, was better known for her books on etiquette than a collection of inspiration. Although the copyright reads 1951, the book is no less useful today than when first published. Some may argue, persuasively, this book gets better with age. I would not disagree. My favorite passage is on page 23 under the heading “Happiness & The Enjoyment of Living.” The selection is a retelling of Frederic Loomis story from “In a Chinese Garden,” originally published in 1942. The message is “Enjoy yourself — it is later than you think.” Keep that in mind if you’re mulling over a purchase. I’ve found this to be more than a great value (how many books do you carry for a quarter century?). Light from Many Lamps has provided me a lifetime of inspiration.
