For Spanish-speaking kids, to help them learn the Spanish alphabet

Have just bought a second pack as they get so much use in my classroom. Reasonably sturdy, well-made, colorful, and a good size at 5.5" tall. Please note: many reviewers seem to have assumed these were designed to teach their English-speaking kid some Spanish. They're not. They're designed for Spanish-speaking kids, to use to learn the Spanish alphabet -- and for that purpose they are excellent. That's why they include the article ("el barco", not just "barco"). That's why the English translation is a small supplement in the corner, and doesn't necessarily start with the same letter. They're simply not designed for English-speaking kids!

useful for the right age group

These cards cover the letters of the alphabet and some limited vocabulary words that start with those letters. Each letter, and its corresponding chosen vocabulary word, is usually covered three times. An example: the user will see a picture of a monkey (mono) on three different cards. On the back of one card, there will be a capital "M". On the back of another, there will be a lowercase "m". On the third card the words "monkey" and "el mono" will appear together. Note: that the word mono does not appear on each of the cards -- only one of the three cards. Some of the vocabulary is a bit odd. For example, with the letter "W" the flash card makers use "Washington". Many little ones will likely have no idea who George Washington is supposed to be. Understandably, there are not many Spanish words that begin with "W". Similarly, with "ñ" the makers did not have a whole lot of options and used "ñame".For little ones and even slightly older students, the utilization of numerous cards to learn a single letter or particular vocabulary word (like monkey/mono)will lead to a repetition that will be beneficial for memorization. When a card is presented with an animal or item and the full word is presented, the article is used. The cards are also of decent quality and could take some minor abuse from young learners. In addition to learning how to say the alphabet in Spanish in English and some vocabulary words, these cards could be good for matching exercises. The cards have bright backgrounds and a youngster could be asked to match all the red cards or blue cards. Kids could also be asked to find all of the cards with monkeys or yams.If you want a more comprehensive set that covers letters, colors, shapes, opposites, numbers, etc., I would try the "Listo para la Escuela" set, which is made by FlashKids as well. Note that the Listo para la Escuala set is probably a little more advanced than this set. These cards are made in China.

Great size cards but odd Spanish. Be great if was common North American Spanish "Mexican" the word ñame? = yam?
