Review: Resolved all of my fish tank heating woes - I’ve had issues with fish tank heaters failing - or worse - getting stuck on. Like many others, this has almost resulted in fish death. Luckily, I’ve caught it the few times it’s happened to me before fish were lost. After the last time this happened a few months ago, I decided to add an upstream heater control, and found this one quickly as it had fantastic reviews. I like the redundant heat probes with failsafe operation, the 0.1° incremental control, and the Wi-Fi control is really what sold me. It includes a detailed history log so you can go back and see what’s going on with your fish tank over days and weeks. The temperature logging seemed like a neat feature, however, it was really a big hit with me once I got it. It immediately proved its value. I recently installed a new air conditioner in my room, which has allowed me to keep the room at a constant cooler temperature year-round. Previously, I had issues with ick, which I traced back to wildly fluctuating FishTank temperatures due to wild fluctuations in room temperature. So I would keep the fish tank around 80° so it would maintain that temperature when my room would get hotter on hot days. Now, my room stays closer to 74° year round. I was able to balance this new comfortable room temperature with a very comfortable Fishtank temperature, with minimal use of the heaters. I was able to set the unit’s high and low triggerpoints very precisely using the log to avoid inefficient heater use. I settled on 74.5 on the low end and 75.0 on the high-end. The heaters only crank on if I decide to make my room really cold for a while. I know I could never get this type of precision with the old style heater control, and having the temperature log charts is what allowed it to be so easy. So, the Fish are happy, and I’m obviously using less power needlessly driving the heaters. I read a few reviews where people were trying to use this unit strictly as a failsafe for a runaway temperature condition (having the heater itself control the temperature, and hoping this unit would simply turn it off in a runaway condition). This unit and its parameters and alarms are not designed for that. I use it by cranking my heaters up to around 80° - a temperature my tank should never see. Then I let this temperature controller handle it at a more reasonable temperature of 74 to 75°. So even if this unit was to fail “on” somehow (basically impossible), the upstream heaters would still only have a potential to heat up the tank to 80° until their own thermostats would trip off. So it’s basically a triple failsafe at that point. I’m using this with the jinvoo smart app. I think there are a few other apps it will work with. But it paired up right away, and I have many other Jinvoo smart devices, including some of my Fishtank lights, on the same app (on a separate vlan of course!). Last point others have also hit on, make sure the two temperature probes are located close to each other. The point of them is to be redundant at the same point of reference. So if you spread them apart and have two different temperature readings it will assume a problem and halt operation. This little guy is pretty cool, and one of the most practical smart devices in my setup.
Review: Incredible Aquarium Heater Controller - This heater controller is an excellent choice. I purchased it a few months ago to control my Eheim Thermocontrol e50, and I can confidently say that it has been trouble-free. Its WiFi connectivity has been a lifesaver when I’m not home but want to check on my tank’s temperature. I’ve also tested the alarms for too cold and too hot using ice and hot water, and both alarms are audible from the unit and my phone. They’re both very effective at grabbing your attention. Additionally, I’ve tested its durability, and it’s proven to be incredibly long-lasting. The value for money is also exceptional. It’s the perfect fit for my tank and has done an excellent job of keeping it between 80.9°F and 82.1°F.

## Features

- Dual Protections: The aquarium temperature controller is equipped with 2 relays to ensure that the plugged heater can be turned off when detected overheating, protecting your fish tank well
- 2 probes get more reliable: place them in a fish tank but at a distance, the controller will alarm when the temperature difference is over 3 degrees Celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit), and the App will push a notification to your cell phone at the same time
- Customize Heating Time: You can determine the heating time from 1 to 72 hours; The controller will alarm you when the time out but the temperature still could not reach the expected level
- Temperature Setting: 20.0 to 35.0 degrees Celsius or 68.0 to 95.0 degrees Fahrenheit; and the detectable temperature range is minus 40 to 100 degrees Celsius or minus 40 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit
- Plug and Play: The 1100 W aquarium temperature controller is compatible with most kinds of heaters, you don't need to assemble the product yourself, it is plug and play
- APP Notification: Pair the aquarium temperature controller with your phone via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and the device will alarm if there is any exception, and the INKBIRD app will push notifications to remind you

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I'm assuming this will work with a heater that doesn't have it's own thermostat and requires a controller?**
A: Yes. You can use it to control a heater with no built in thermostat. I use it as a primary controller with my heaters set 1 degree higher as a backup safety.

**Q: Should I get the 306a or the 308s? Please advise**
A: The best of the two units is the 308. If the temperature drops below a certain point ( which YOU set on the unit) the heater will turn on and bring the temperature up to where you want it. Now if the temperature rises and needs to be brought down then (if YOU are using a chiller or you are using cooling fans they will come on) again YOU will set that temperature for when it goes over a certain degree. Like if you don't want the temperature to go over lets say 80*. The moment that the unit reaches 79.5* it should come on to cool what ever you want. It will stay on until it reaches the temperature that you set on the unit. Lets say you set it to 77* it will cool down to that temperature. You have to make the settings with the 308 it is not set for you, you have to make the settings

**Q: Is there a way of tracking on the app when heater is activated?**
A: No.
Only could check the temperature fluctuation via the INKBIRD app.

**Q: Can this work without wifi?**
A: Yes, 2.4GHZ wifi

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Accurate temperature controlls
*by J***E on July 20, 2025*

Works perfectly. It takes several tries but it does connect to wifi. I keep a fan plugged in. Works great to cool my aquarium to the desired temperature. The led is easy to read. Fan turns off when it reaches the cool temp setting and turns on soon enough to keep the tank within 0.3 degrees of the high temperature. I am pleased with the purchase and would buy again.
