It zips open from one end only to slide your notebook/laptop into it. (Actually I like this concept better because if you accidentally left it unzipped with the zipper all the way around, say goodbye to your notebook/laptop!) Very thin. Very light. Super luxuriously soft material inside. Would I want to put this in my luggage or backpack? No. But to carry around -carefully- day to day, sure. Water repellant as long as you don't spill a lot of liquid at once. Okay, here's the only real thing about this delivery that I just can't look over: Look at how my package was delivered. The colors and design alone are just absolutely gorgeous. The inside of the bag is fuzzy so I wouldn't worry about my laptop getting scratched while it was inside. The bag is thick and cushy to the point where the laptop is safe but I still wouldn't intentionally drop it with your laptop in it. The handles are sturdy and hide inside the pockets on each side if you don't want to use them. The pockets are really long and deep as well - they span the entire bag. I was able to fit my laptop charger and cable in their no problem. You could easily fit other cables and devices in there as well but there is a zipper pocket on one side for that purpose or smaller things if you need it.Unfortunately for me I measured my laptop incorrectly so it didn't fit in this laptop bag. I have a 14 inch laptop and while the listing said 13-13.3 inch my measurements made it seem like it would fit. It didn't. Well, technically I was able to stuff it inside the bag but it was extremely difficult and took as much effort to get it out of the bag as it did to get it in the bag. So if you have a 14 inch laptop, I wouldn't suggest this bag. I was so bummed when I returned it because it is so beautiful, well made, and would keep my laptop safe. But I had to.
