We have taken it apart and put it together several times and it seems to be holding up fine. You may want to measure it to make sure you have a table large enough or if you don't mind getting on the floor that works great too. I usually don't like the price of Melissa & Doug's products but this one was one of the more reasonably priced items and worth it for the fun and learning experience. Keep in mind this probably isn't something they are going to do by themselves a 100 times, but if you join in with the child and name everything as they build, they will catch on pretty fast. I got this for my Grandson who just finished Kindergarten and he is already pretty family with all the states, we are still working on the capitals. It's a fun little puzzle and doesn't take a lot of time to build, which is great if you're looking to squeeze something in before dinner or whatever else. I do recommend for young learners. As far as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, also known as the "UP", it is the same color, as the Lower Peninsula, as anyone can plainly see. Geographically speaking, the UP is known as a very separate area here in Michigan, you have to cross the mighty Mackinac bridge, across the long straits of Mackinac to get to the UP, for starters. The UP is situated to the far West, as well as due north of the top of Michigan. To anyone who sees it, it almost looks as if it belongs to Wisconsin or Canada! But with this map, you will learn what we Michiganders know :The UP belongs to Michigan, as hard as that is to believe, you can learn that , too. This is a great puzzle! The border pieces are the biggest (blue in picture is the border) smallest piece is 1 1/2" x 3, some pieces are 4 x 9. 1 x 6, 2 x 4, and so on. It helps teach the capital of each state let alone where the state is.
