You must have a reliable alternate thermometer available, to double check your setting. The as the wafer heats up, it expands...once the expansion cause the diaphram to touch the contact, it turns the unit OFF. What I do, is make certain you have the turns counterclockwise enough such that the expansion will not break the diaphram. Turn your heat source on, and as the temperature approaches the desired temperature (as monitored on your separate thermometer), slowly turn the screw clockwise on the thermostat, so that the diaphram closes the gap to the switch. This thing is very sensitive (which is a good thing). You will need to tweak it, about 1/4 turn to 1/8th of a turn per degree (approx)....see what that gives you, and then adjust again. Depending on the distance the diaphram is from the heat source, and the size of any holes or gaps in your incubator, will determine how closely it holds the temperature. I keep a small computer fan running in the incubator, to distribute the heat evenly from the bulb (heat element) to the diaphram....and it helps keep the cycles closer to the desired temp. It is VERY IMPORTANT that the first time you turn your unit on...you leave plenty of room between the diaphram and the switch. Not doing so, may break the diaphram as it rapidly expands towards the switch. Good Idea to label the screw...so you remember that turning it clockwise -bringing the diaphram closer to the switch...will lower the temperature....and counterclockwise will raise the temperature in the unit....(take it longer to shut the heater element off). Once you see the setup...it will become very obvious to you. Just beware of the initial setting.If you plug everything in for the first time...and your heating element does not come on....back off a lot on the screw (counterclockwise)...until there is space between the diaphram and the little nub sitcking out on the switch.I am very impressed with this unit. Few working parts....but reliable and consistent. I get reliably +or- 2 degrees from the desired set temp....which is fine for my purposes. I also found that putting some items that will help maintain the mass heat...such as a brick, also helps to hold the temperature steady longer.
