They are operated by USB, which is what I wanted. These are the kind of lights that one would want when you are trying to lighten area that requires a lot of turning of corners. The lights are on a thin wire which is actually good. It does not seem brittle or cheap in any way. I used some double-sided tape placed every few feet in order to adhere them to the table on the sides. The lights are adequately bright and are great for accenting just about anything I would think. Remote control works fine and comes with the battery already installed. The only thing that I would be aware of is that you have 16 feet of LED lights, which is actually quite long. Better too long than too short. If you're just trying to do a small area, you may want to go with a shorter lighting system. That being said, I really wanted something with the remote control, something that was very durable, and something that was powered by a standard USB port. So if you plan on using with a smart outlet, timer, or if you get a power outage the lights goes back to cycling color mode. Hey Heh HehI would certainly recommend these light sets for their easy use, no plug in AC Electricity, which being battery or solar powered takes the electrical shock hazard away.
