Are each punch the same length?** A: The punches are just a tad under 4 inches long, all of them are the same length, **Q: Can i use these to punch tin?** A: These are flat pointed punches so I don't believe they would be the right tool for that but they seem stout enough to use for it. **Q: Ball tip punch vs. flat punch vs. hollow punch? I can see the difference of course... but which one for a standard looking roll pin in a firearm?** A: Roll pins require a "roll pin" punch, which has a small point in the center to fit the hole in the roll pin. Flat end punches are for driving solid pins. **Q: What do drop forged and knurled steel mean?** A: Drop forged means its shaped by a heavy weight being dropped on a red hot ingot. It should result in a very hard, strong steel product. Knurled is a texture imparted on the metal to allow a better grip. In reality, these punches are soft steel and pretty useless for doing any real work as they bend and deform easily. Small punches are useless. *by C***. on September 22, 2025* The big 5/16" punch worked fantastic getting the front sight pins loose in my AR. 2 hits and they were flush with the front sight and it was easy to switch to a smaller punch to get them the rest of the way out. When I switched to the small punch to get the roll pin out of the gas tube, it bent after 2 hits. Thankfully I already have a set of high quality small punches. If you are buying this set for the small punch, look elsewhere.
