## Description

The USBAMB2MD 2m USB to Down Angle Mini USB Cable provides a high quality connection between your Mini USB 2.0 mobile devices (smartphones, GPS, digital cameras, portable hard drives, etc.) and your PC or Mac computer, for everyday tasks such as charging, data synchronization or file transfers. The down-angled Mini USB connector allows you to access your Mini USB devices, while keeping the cable out of the way, and stress away from the port. Designed and constructed for maximum durability, this high quality USB to Mini USB cable is backed by StarTech.com's Lifetime Warranty. As an alternative, StarTech.com also offers a 2m USB to Up Angle Mini USB Cable (USBAUB2MU), which provides the same convenience as this down-angled cable, but allows you to connect to your Mini USB device from the opposite direction.

Review: Order "Up-Angle" for Garmin Nuvi - This is a very nice, high quality cable, and it does work for charging Garmin Nuvi car navigators with some limitations. The limitations are that it doesn't work for "Traffic" because the Garmin charging cable is also the traffic antenna, and a USB cable is not. There is also an issue with a computer (data) symbol showing up on screen when the Garmin Nuvi does a cold boot-up. The latter is an annoyance. I spoke with Garmin customer support about the annoyance and here's the story: the Nuvi uses the same mini-USB port for both charging and for data, like map updates, etc. The way the Nuvi distinguishes between a Garmin data update attempt from a USB cable and an ordinary charging action (cigarette lighter cable) is by measuring the voltage entering the unit from the cable. A USB port for data operates at 4.75-5.25v 2.1A, but the Garmin cigarette lighter charging cable operates at 10v 2.4Amax. This means that the USB is charging at a lower voltage than the regular charging cable. When the Nuvi receives USB voltage, it assumes that a data transfer is being requested by the user. Garmin does not make a USB cable that works with the Nuvi because of the common port. The work-around is that the USB voltage can be made to work for charging by removing and re-inserting the USB connector after the computer (data) symbol appears on screen. (It takes about 30 seconds on my GPS.) Upon re-plugging the USB, the Nuvi will drop the data symbol and allow the unit to load maps and boot-up normally, albeit charging at an undervoltage. The USB then operates as a trickle charger, charging slower than the higher voltage regular charging cable. The computer symbol annoyance does not then reoccur as long as the unit remains booted. The annoyance will happen again when you next do a cold re-boot and you'll have to pull and re-insert the USB plug again as described above to do the work-around. Garmin says the problem doesn't occur on all Nuvi units, but does occur a lot of the time. On my Nuvi 2595LMT it happens most of the time. You need to understand this when purchasing the cable so you don't think the cable is at fault. Notwithstanding the annoyance, I use it and rate the cable, for what it is, at five stars. Don't make the assumption that "Down-Angle" in the product description means the MiniUSB cable points downwards on a Garmin Nuvi GPS; on my Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT, the connector on the GPS is reversed and the "Up-Angle" connector is the correct fit to have the cable point downwards. The product photos on desertcart correctly illustrate the position of the connector, so refer to the photo, rather than the Up/Down description that is almost meaningless. The Garmin's Nuvi GPS right-angle connector (the one supplied by Garmin with the GPS) is 180° opposite the direction that StarTech.com refers to as Down-Angle. The terms "up" and "down" may be unintentionally misleading in these circumstances. Best procedure would be to look directly at the orientation of the connector on your GPS and match it to the product photo to order the orientation you need, disregarding whatever may be the meaning of up/down in the product description.
Review: Works great with my dash cam - I've had a dash cam for years, but it came with a straight mini-USB cable that was constantly disconnecting because it was pushed up against the windshield. Every time I moved the camera it dropped the connection. I was going to get rid of the camera, thinking it might be the USB port itself, then found this angled cable and decided to try it. Problem solved! It wasn't the camera; it was the cable. I've had this on my camera for the last few months and have not had a single power drop since. I've used StarTech products in the past and have always been satisfied with them which was the main reason I purchase this cable. I would not hesitate to purchase this again and will continue to use StarTech products in the future. It was shipped on time and well packaged.

A: 3 feet

**Q: I need a usb type a to usb type a about a foot long. do they make these? it is to connect rearview cam to front facing dash cam**
A: Our closest option for a 1' male type A to male type A cable is USB2AA1M which is 3' long.
Matt, StarTech.com Support

**Q: will this charge a Garmin GPS?**
A: As long as your GPS takes a mini USB then yes it will as long as your power source has enough amps.

Nice cable. Allows the cable of my USB RFID reader to run downward vs. straight out of the device.
