Used in our dining room, I make sure to have one window open and the kitchen range hood fan on. Bear in mind that our (Viking) range hood can suck small children off the floor. In China, hot pot restaurants will have 80-100 charcoal fired hot pots going at one time in a dining room. Presumably there's some sort of ventilation at work, but literally nothing apparent. In 30 years I have never heard of a problem. Note that if CO or CO2 were a problem, you'd know-- a headache, vision issues, etc. It's not like being hit by a train. I use ours in our dining room with one window open and the kitchen range hood fan going: zero problems. I also use real charcoal (hardwood lump) and smoke simply isn't a concern. You can use smokeless, but it's really not required. Never use briquettes, which are usually a mix of coal and binder. **Q: Is this grill for indoor cooking? I have seen restaurants that use commercial vent hoods over the grills, but if you want to grill indoors, you should be looking at an electric unit.
