I replaced the original foot plate on my Nikkor 70-200 because this one was stronger. I read of other photographers who accidentally banged their tripod-mounted lens and had the flimsy original foot plate deform so badly it almost ripped out. Then I got to thinking. Maybe this Sunwayfoto is actually too strongly made? What would have happened to that guy's expensive lens body if his original thin foot plate hadn't absorbed the impact energy and self-destructed? Would there have been damage to the lens instead?
