Doesn't come with batteries or spices so once you've got this, 4 AA batteries and the non-ground spice of your choosing, you're good to go. Seems to grind up peppercorns well and even has a light at the bottom for whatever reason - I guess maybe so you can see where you're spreading your spices in the dark. I use the Pink Himalayan Salt, and when my new mill arrived, I filled it with the Pink Salt. I was disappointed that the light was so dim, but thought maybe I really didn't need a light. The pepper mill I ordered has a very bright light. I got used to the annoyance of the light. Just the other day, the mill just stopped working. When I took it apart to see what was wrong, a piece of black plastic broke off. I think one of the salt crystals may have lodged in the grinding mechanism. I put it back together, and what do I do now? Can it be replaced, or am I just out of luck? I could not find my original pepper mill I ordered previously, and thought this one would do. You can choose very fine and it will spit out big chunks.EDIT:I've found that as I've used it it has evened out some more in it's consistency and it helps to always keep the adjustment screw tight.
