The wooden lid has a rubber ring that holds the lid in place fairly well (it can slip out, so you may want to remove it or hold it when pouring coffee). The lid is much better than the available glass lid. I find using both pieces doubles the time coffee stays at a warm/drinkable temperature (for me anyway).
