However, the length is not affected much. **Q: Length of the product top to bottom?** A: The size is large & overall length is 42" & inseam is 31" . **Q: Can you remove the drawstring and still have elastic waist?** A: Yes, at least I did (HATE that string!). But I had to use small SHARP scissors to cut the string in the center/back. It's toed to the waist band in the back so it doesn't slip out. But removing it is pretty simple. These EcoSmart fleece sweatpants with the open bottoms have smaller leg openings that a wideleg or straightleg pant, but they are not quite a peg-leg or slim fit either. I purchased 2 pairs of size small, which is his normal size and they are a bit snug after washing. If you want a roomy fit, I'd definitely size up as there is a slight amount of shrinkage. The length of the pants is great, working well for his 5'7", 140 pound frame. The fabric is stretchy, but not thin. These are midweight sweatpants that hold their shape after washing and drying. They have a drawstring waist and deep pockets. They were an excellent buy when I purchased them. If I did it again, I'd size up to a medium, but the quality is very good.
