I rarely use the poles and just have the other end staked in the ground - creates privacy this way and since I’m only 5’1” it works perfectly for me set up this way. I’ve been in rain storms and had my electric bike completely sheltered by this awesome product. Use it every time now and it’s simple and quick to set up. Quality has held up / suction cups absolutely suck so plan to get better ones or use strong magnets. Review: Worth every penny - This awning saved our recent week of offroad camping. It works really well as designed but we used it on the ground sideways (like a curved wall) to block the cold wind as we huddled around an LP firepit. Once staked down, it can handle an impressive amount of wind. I only wish we'd had another one to block the wind from 2 sides! It goes together in about 2 minutes and back down just as quick. It packs away nicely in a small bag. I replaced the cheapo guyline ropes with 550 cord and I haven't messed with the suction cups. I love the versatility. Im worried that the wheel wells are too far away for the straps to reach...** A: It won't work for that van - not because of the wheel wells (you could always attach extra cord to extend it) but because it has to have a hatch door to keep the awning up. If your van has the two doors in back which open horizontally this item will not work. **Q: would the awning work on a Casita trailer** A: I am not familiar with your trailer, I use mine on the back of my Pinecone pod trailer and it works great. There is plenty of covered space behind the trailer. I use bungee cords to attach to each side of the trailer. **Q: Would this work with a full sized van with barn doors in back?** A: ABSOLUTELY - this was the best buy I made for our trip. it comes with ropes (para-cord) + suction cups to secure it, the ropes have little plastic hooks that allow you to 'secure' it to something like under side of vehicle, roof rack, mirrors - something on your vehicle without damage. You should however invest in weight bags (that you fill with rocks, water or sand/dirt) to hold/tie-down to the front legs so the wind doesn't grab it & blow it away. I am delighted with it - well worth the money for a huge portable awning. we easily shaded our whole picnic table with all 6 of us under it and immediately around it. You may need two people to open/close the doors (someone to lift it up to allow door to FULLY open/close) but you could find a higher point to secure that would allow it without 2 people. There were no problems with this awning outside of some tiny visible holes in one area of fabric by a seam. Cheap Chinese materials! I replaced the no quality stakes with high quality anodized tent stakes from my camping supply cabinet. I also set aside the cheap sectional poles with the nice telescopic pole set by Green Elephant. The bags for adding weight for stability in windy weather have nice stiff Velcro straps. I did just that! I put one 5# rubber coated dumbbell inside each nylon bag. Very cool and worth the extra cost! I also tested then tossed aside the crappy suction cup retainers. They pulled right off! I purchased the upgraded 4piece RedCamp suction cup set that have carabiners attached for very quick one person fastening to grommets or tie down lines. As long as this awning holds up, I’ll be a happy camper. This design and versatility for use on trailer’s, cars, trucks & vans is a pretty neat idea. I also like the dimensions.
