I "read" the book to her the first time (which I'm sorry I did, as I should have let her "read" it to me using her own version), but after that, she began "reading" it to me and each time she added something different to the story. She giggled at the taunting of the little girl to the wave, and then the results of that taunting. She totally related to the story, reminding me that we found seashells at the beach, bringing home a souvenir of a special seashell she had found, and that we ran away from the big waves when they crashed toward us. When we finished the book, she wanted to start all over. The illustrations are beautiful and the watercolors are simple yet poignant.
