One tip / trick - The power button is supposed to point up once you attach the scope to the base. When you screw this adapter into the SeeStar where it is securely tight, the orientation of the side clamping portions may not be properly aligned with the base. In order to get things properly aligned (where the power button is pointing skyward) I removed the two tiny screws that hold the threaded bolt into the adapter - which worked well for me. Although the SA is similar to your ioptron I have no direct experience with your device. That said, the threaded portion of the mount is larger than the standard threaded opening on dslr cameras. You will need an adapter. This particular mount is made for use with ball heads and that is how I use it. I attach a ball head to the mount then the camera to the ball head. This gives me greater flexibility in aligning the camera’s position to the object I am photographing. **Q: Will this fit a az-eq5 mount?** A: I don't have first-hand experience, but my research says that it will indeed fit an AZ-EQ5 mount. **Q: Can I attache the evostar72 to a tripod with this?** A: No, the ball head adapter is too big to fit a standard camera tripod.
