Haven't had to use it for that purpose yet, but here's what I love.I can keep it plugged in / charged so it'll be ready when the power goes out.End spot light and area lights each have a bright and a less-bright setting (dim is relative... especially in a black out).The red may or may not get used - we'll see.I don't see much need for the red flasher, but I could see it being helpful in Automobile contexts.LED in the button shows when it's got a full charge.Built-in USB port for charging essentials during a power outage could be extremely handy.Big enough to be findable in the dark, small enough & lightweight enough to be easily carried & used.Handle for carrying and a loop on the end for hanging (to illumniate the entire room/tent).The only drawback that I can think of is that all the light settings happen through one button, cycling through 6 settings + OFF.
