Sturdy stainless steel with a perfect fit. I measured my crate twice and ordered the size closest. It slides right in. As mentioned by at least one other, the sound the tray makes when my dog stepped on it scared her. Its metal on metal. I fixed it by placing an old blanket between the crate and tray (under the tray). It did arrive with a few insignificant scratches. My impression is that they are probably from storage, trays stacked upon one another. It's a stainless steel tray for a dog crate. It's not an artistic masterpiece to be admired on a pedestal. Very pleased so far. If that changes after longer use I'll update my review accordingly. It is sturdy and well made.
