I haven't found yet that I need to drill holes in it to attach the brackets as it stays together just fine shooting .40 S&W at my AR 500 targets. **Q: What is the biggest round they can take?** A: I have the 10 inch plate and it has held up fine from 556 to 308 projectiles at 100 meters and also for defensive 9mm hand guns.For handgun at five meters angle your plate for fragments. Most were bulky and hard to move and eventually became flimsy after constant abuse from gun fire and moving them around.These target stand brackets were the exact product I was looking for. I bought (4) five-foot long 1/2 pipes from a home improvement store for a few dollars each, which function perfectly as legs. Even though you can bolt the legs to the brackets, I don't find this is necessary. These brackets, combined with the legs and a single 8' long 2x4, provides a system that is extremely easy to set up, take down and transport and can take anything I can shoot at it.I have three AR500 steel targets that I hang from the 2x4: a 9" x 15" silhouette, an 8" gong and a 6" gong. I have hit these targets with 5.56, 7.62 x 54, .30-06, and .308 - the target remains strong, even though the steel targets are not they only thing that has been hit. The brackets have been hit once by a 5.56 round and suffered no damage. I considered this item a bit pricey when I first considered buying them, but after using them, I have nothing but praise and highly recommend them. For the legs, I bought four 10 ft lengths of EMT electrical conduit at Home Depot and cut them down to around 7 ft so the un-assembled legs fit diagonally in the extended bed of my Toyota pickup truck.I chose to further strengthen my target stand by making cross braces for each set of legs as my steel targets are heavy. I have a full length AR500 steel torso target and 2 plate targets. I like to over engineer things so if you are like me please read on.I made cross braces for the legs by taking two of the remaining 3 ft lengths of EMT and inserted a 6" length of 3/4" dowel rod flush into each end of the EMT brace and drilled a hole through the EMT and dowel about 4" from each end of the EMT. I secured the dowel to the EMT by inserting a standard bolt through the EMT and dowel rod. I then drilled a hole in the end of each dowel rod and screwed in a decent sized eye bolt screw on both ends.I then mounted 1 eye bolt on all 4 of the 7 ft legs as "hangers" for the cross brace. Using a carabiner, I connect the eye bolt on each leg to the eye bolt screw on each brace. Make sure you insert the AR500 stand bracket into both legs so you can measure where to drill the holes for the eye bolts on each of the 4 legs using the cross brace to measure. Make sure the cross brace is level between the span of the two legs and the cross brace is taught when you connect the cross brace eye bolt to the leg eye bolt using a small carabiner. Proceed to drill the holes in each of the 4 legs to mount the eye bolts. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Over 50lbs of steel on these brackets and a 2x4 and they hold up great!!! *by L***D on Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2016* The media could not be loaded.  I use these brackets with 5ft pieces of Electrical EMT conduit and a 6 ft long 2x4 and it works great!! I used #6 eyelets in the 2x4 and carabiners to hang 1- 8" 1/2 gong, 1- 10" 3/8 gong and a full size 3/8 IPSC target from the 2x4. The 10" targets are 13lbs ea and the IPSC target is 28lbs plus the chain is probably a lb for each target. It holds up with no problems at all. The Brackets make transport, setup and takedown very easy for one person. I love this setup and for the price you cant beat it. I know some have said to go with black gas pipe but I have not had any problems with the EMT, no bowing or sagging in the conduit at all. I have taken this setup to the range about 5 times as of writing this review (7/18/16) and I have a video up on the tube if you want to see my older setup when I 1st got the brackets. The IPSC target was bought a couple of weeks later and I need to update the video for it.
