Worst performing device in its category of the 5 that we tested. *by J***T on June 16, 2017* Absolutely worthless as any form of tracking device. It's a nice design and form-factor, relative to other competitors on the market, but as a tracking device, this is the worst performing of all of the devices we've tested. We've tested over 5 different devices extensively with travel mostly domestic and some International. This device RARELY updates it's location unless it is within 10ft to 20ft of bluetooth range, which is basically useless because that's basically only when the luggage is in your hand. It updates it's location when NOT in your hand about 1 in 10 times on average. And if you try to "force" it to locate your device, while using the mobile app, it says it's trying to reach it via the "antenna" but we have not gotten that to work a single time and we are constantly trying to use that feature. I suspect that it is simply a matter of signal strength, being inside the belly of a plane or inside of essentially a concrete bunker that is most airport terminals just completely blocks the signal. And since it only tries to "ping" the mothership maybe once an hour, the couple of minutes it's out in the open between plan to terminal isn't enough time for it to locate itself. So I don't think they could ever improve this product, as it is currently designed. It needs to have a complete redesign and use the software and algorithms in nearly every cell phone to locate itself. Lugloc focuses on the ridiculous feature of 14-days battery life, but neglected to produce an actual product that works for those 14 days!!! The geeks in their R&D department need to get out and actually USE the product so they realize what a colossal waste of their funding and failed consumer experience this product is in reality. I would be perfectly fine with 1 or 2 days battery life if the product actually WORKED. Obviously more battery would be better, but just working for even 10 to 15 hours would satisfy the use-case of tracking your luggage on a normal flight. We are a scientific and very methodical firm so we believe our tests are not only exhaustive, but also unbiased. This product rates the worst of ALL other products tested simply because it's probability of actually working is less than 1 in 10 trips, but when it does work, its latency is anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. That is, on the rare occasions that it did update it's location, those updates were anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours after the device actually arrived at the destination. Yet another critical flaw of this device is that it doesn't do real-time updates of location. It's tragically flawed algorithm tries to divine when it has "landed" and only then supposed updates you, but even that rarely happens. I'm sure this is a failed strategy of extending the battery life, but instead, it has the unintended consequence of rendering this device useless because the algorithm simply doesn't work and thus, the device doesn't update it's location. Instead, what ALL of the competing devices have figured out is that updated location information is by far the most important core feature that you at least must get right at a minimum, and then that allows for a traveler to instantly get location information or at most, 5-minute-old location information. I would consider this product a complete failure and I would give their R&D department a failing grade for focusing on the wrong things and completely failing to deliver on the most basic core feature of the product. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent product. Clever design. Works great. Very long battery life. Very useful. A+ *by L***S on April 7, 2016* Simply a wonderful product. I travel very often for business and being able to know where my luggage is when I land is wonderful. The unit works very well. The unit itself is slim and lightweight. When on the ground between connecting flights, I like to confirm that my luggage arrived with me. When I land at my destination, when I walk off the plane, I do a track, then I can see my luggage made it with me to the destination city. It works very well. A few detailed points: 1) Battery - the battery really does last a long time - 15 days or more. Excellent battery longevity. 2) One minor point that is a bit odd - the switch needs to be in the "on" position to charge it (it won't charge if the switch is off) 3) Accuracy: The unit uses the GSM phone networks/tower triangulation (not GPS satellite), which keeps the power consumption low (which is great). Thus the accuracy is perhaps 300-500 feet (which is absolutely good enough for my needs), but it does not have GPS satellite (30 feet or so) level of accuracy. For me, that's a great tradeoff. The price of the unit I think is reasonable, and the service price ($29/year for unlimited tracking) is very reasonable too. Overall very satisfied.
