Waist isn't tight but doesn't drop during a run, and where the shorts end there is no circulation stopping elastic but they don't gape either. Good around crotch area too! I wear a size 6/8/10 in trousers from various places and bought a size small.There is a deep pocket on either side which fits an iPhone X comfortably. There is no danger of it falling out, and after the initial minute or so I forgot it was there. Negates the need for a running belt for my phone which is great, and the main reason I bought these shorts.
