Graphite for drawing comes in a range of hardnesses, for different darkness of marks. Graphite for use as a lubricant is very fine, very hard, and probably screened for impurities. Artist graphite powder is meant for drawing on paper and such, and is usually courser, medium hardness or soft, depending on the darkness desired.
