Therefore, what works for one application or regulatory requirement does not work for all of them. As a result, we make many different kinds of chlorine tests for different applications. This test specifically was designed more for testing care facilities sanitizers and disinfectants (although it has other uses). To get an accurate reading you must: Dip the Active Chlorine test strip into solution for 1 second. Remove strip and shake off excess water. After 1 minute, compare pad against color chart. The way pretty much all test strips work is through chemical reactions. So when you dip a test strip into a solution it will react if the chemical the strip is designed for is present. This reaction will occur on the test pad indefinitely, which is why pretty much every test strip will continue changing colors even after the time instructions say to get a reading. We design our test strips with this in mind which is why we calibrate all of our color charts to our instructions (and the timing). In your specific case, your machine is producing a solution at 500 ppm and not producing to the rated capacity. This could be as a result of not using enough solute or could be as a result of a defect. In order to make it to the correct specifications, I needed a way to measure the strength of the solution so it's not too strong or too weak. I checked out various reviews and decided to buy two tubes of the Bartovision test strips. They were much less inexpensive than I had imagined they would be, and they arrived quickly.
