The surface is smooth and the glitter is definitely not coming off - it's covered in this clear coating and it seems it should be able to take a beating. It has this smooth firm texture almost like leather but not quite as soft. It also has a little lip to make opening and closing the case easier. It does, like most cases, make a loud noise when shut, but the closing mechanism is smooth nonetheless. Also, it did come with a cleaning cloth, but I am just using one I already had, which is softer and better quality, in my opinion. (The cloth included was cute though and probably works fine.) I may order another case in the future to use for other things, like keys, makeup, pens, etc, as the case is small, sturdy, and very cute!
