## Questions & Answers

**Q: What frequencies does this work with? I’m specifically looking at 915MHz**
A: This is the wrong antenna for that frequency. This works in the 14 Mhz band. It is way too low I don't think Shark makes on for the 915 Mhz band, I think the highest frequency they make one for is 6 Meters (50 Mhz)

**Q: What is the gain?**
A: Gain isn't really a measurement used for shortened HF antennas, it would be a negative number BUT this antenna works well. I always get good reports - the important thing is tuning the antenna.

**Q: I see a couple of people mention tripod mounting - what do you do in the way of counter poise & grounding?**
A: First let me say these Shark antennas are great. I primarily use mine with the mag mount quick disconnect. When you use a tripod on the ground you must have at least one radial a quarter wave long for the freq. in use. I use four radicals but it will tune with one. Without radicals it will not tune. Spell check sucks. Thx

**Q: I have trouble tuning my Shark. Can someone suggest approximate overall length that should tune for the high end of 20m?**
A: I had some trouble also, it took some time with my antenna analyzer before I finally got it to a reasonable tuning. My final SWR was about 2, which was higher than I liked. The adjustable end is 30 3/8 inches from the ferule to the tip. That was with about 50 feet of coax on the line.

Incidentally, i was able to hit Europe with that antenna. I have to Shark hamsticks with the MFJ fitting to make them into a dipole.

Also, don't buy the 80 meter hamstick. It has a very narrow window of tuning.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bought 2, set up as Dipole... works GREAT!
*by T***S on September 19, 2021*

For years I've been struggling to get a decent antenna to work he 20 meter band. My biggest problem is that the thing needed to be inconspicuous. I bought 2 of these 20 meter whips, bolted them to an all-weather junction box, wired them up, bolted them to a steel plate that has a ground running to earth (literally), and added an ugly homebrew RF choke for good measure.Cut to the chase, it works great! In the week it's been up there I've made contactsfrom Minnestoa to Panama, SC, FLA, TX, Massachusetts, Nevada, Maine, Michigan, British Columbia, Washington State, and I can hear loads of Spanish conversations that I assume are emanating from Mexico, although I haven't tried to talk to them (my Spanish is poor). The antenna is set up in an E-W orientation, but I seem to be covering most directions. It took a long time to dial in the SWR with my antenna tuner (started with the whips at full length, then shortened them 1/8 inch at a time), but it resonates well. I'm getting 85 watts out.The antenna can't be seen from the ground, only from the attic window. We had a nasty storm last week and it took no damage.Great product! I'm super happy. For less than a hundred bucks all in for all the bits and pieces I have a very serviceable 20m antenna. I may try adding 2 40's and see if I can't make it dual-mode.
