Weighing only 0.8 pounds, this ukulele is lightweight and portable, making it perfect for music on the go. ## Description Kay has been making instruments since 1890 and manufactured Hawaiian guitars and was the maker of Oahu Instruments in the 1930's. This Soprano Ukulele is a very fine crafted instrument with features of instrument 3 times the price but Designed to be top quality without breaking the bank. The Kay Soprano ukulele as a laminated Mahogany top back and sides with a Hawaiian KOA finish. The neck is solid Mahogany with a Koa Finished fingerboard and inlaid pearl position markers. The rosewood bridges is bolted to the body and accented with 2 pearl dot inlays. The machine heads are designed like those on a guitar, with gears to hold the right tension for tuning. The tuning heads have chrome buttons. This is good enough for a professional but priced for entry level affordability. Note to first time players about ukulele tuning and how to keep a ukulele in tune; The strings on most ukuleles are made of nylon, which will stretch at first until the material stabilizes. First tighten the strings, let the uke sit with tension overnight then go back and check -when you tuned the strings they will have pulled on the neck a bit - and then the strings you tuned before will be loose! You may have to go through all the strings a few times, to get them to stop stretching. All brand new entry level beginner ukes, will require you to repeat the procedure over and over for a few days until the strings "settle in". This may be frustrating, especially at the start but, just like new shoes they often need to "broken in" for a few days. The strings going out of tune is normal in the beginning they are "broken" in.
