**Q: What is the correct drill bit size for pre-drilling screw holes?**
A: The corner braces come with wood screws that are only 1/2" long.  In many softer materials, such as wood or plywood, no tap-hole will be needed--the screws will be effectively self-tapping.

**Q: Can we use this on a metal square tube to hold the wooden plank?**
A: With a proper hole drilled into the metal tube, a sheet metal screw could be used. The same type screws could work for attaching o the plank, assuming proper diameter holes were drilled.

**Q: Thinking of using these to shore up a cheap, particle board shelving unit.  Would this work?**
A: I used them to mount 3 19x15-inch 11/16-inch thick particle board shelves in a utility closet and they're holding well. Byu the way. I tried to drill a third mount hole in a bracket and when the drill heated up the bracket, it hardened, ruining a drill bit. My brother told me about this tendency with certain grades of steel and apparently this is one of those.

Back to your project. If the shelves aren't too long or the particle board too thin, and prone to bowing under weight, these will work. If the shelf can bow, I believe the weight will eventually pull the screws out of the board rather nastily. hth.

**Q: Can I use these for corner shelves and will they hold them up themselves?**
A: Yes they work with everything! They are small so use a couple to hold a small shelf on each side

Like, they’re metal brackets, they hold things together at 90 degrees? Is there an option other than 5 stars? Seem real sturdy, screws go in well, they’re accurate to size, packed well in a resealable container, perform their job, etc. if you need smaller 1ish inch brackets these will do the job for you.
