Inside, there is enough "skin" to practice suturing and messing around with the tools. The scalpel is not super sharp which is great because you can't cut yourself, but it cuts into the fake skin easily. For what I paid for this, I am really impressed with the quality, all the tools are well made and seem very realistic. I know that my kid will get a lot of use out of it, and I can imagine it would be great for an actual med student as well. The whole set is a lot of fun and he's already proud of the suturing he's done.

I got this for Xmas for my 11 year old who said he wants to be a doctor when he grows up. When he opened it, he was so excited, he was like, "I didn't even know I wanted this! I can't wait to use it!" He proceeded to forget about all his other presents for a moment to look inside the box. Inside, there is enough "skin" to practice suturing and messing around with the tools. The scalpel is not super sharp which is great because you can't cut yourself, but it cuts into the fake skin easily. For what I paid for this, I am really impressed with the quality, all the tools are well made and seem very realistic. I know that my kid will get a lot of use out of it, and I can imagine it would be great for an actual med student as well. The whole set is a lot of fun and he's already proud of the suturing he's done.
