For those of you wondering, no this particular bag does not contain baking soda. My hamster loves this bedding. Before I found this bedding, I used aspen. My hamster didn't mind the aspen, but he seems to be a lot more comfortable with this kind of bedding. I've heard people say that this bedding smells bad, it does have an odd smell, but I wouldn't classify it as terrible. It does expand and it is very fluffy. I have a pretty good size cage ( an 110 qt. bin) and it only takes around 1/4 of a bag to fill his cage. I put around 5" of bedding in half of his cage and in the other half I use kids play sand.
