From the manufacturer Finger-friendly The Ceramic blade is finger friendly. Sleek ergonomic design allows for self-guiding & controlled cuts. With your hands protected, a clean cut allows for safe cutting and reduced fatigue. Never rusts Zirconium Oxide, the key material in Slice ceramics, is chemically inert, non-porous, non-stick and impervious to acids, salt, and rust. Slice ceramic blades are also free of lubricants and oils that traditional metal blades require to combat premature rusting. Slice ceramic blades never rust. Help those in need Slice was founded in 2008 by TJ Scimone as a way to help fund long-term care for his autistic son. **Q: Does the blade stay open without hold?**
A: Yes. This is a manual carton cutter! The blade will is exposed when the slider is pushed forward and will stay exposed until the slider is retracted :)! TEAM SLICE // San Jose, California

**Q: What type of metal is the sheath, that makes it acetone resistant?**
A: aluminum

**Q: How do you lock the blade in position? This is a clear safety hazard as the blade is slipping all over the place and opened in my pocket cutting me.**
A: I've owned 2.  In one case the outer aluminum shield isn't snug against the orange ceramic casing holding the blade.  I used pliers to squeeze the aluminum just enough to hold the blade in place.  It worked even to slide the blade in and out holding it in place.  I don't understand about the blade cutting you though.  The whole idea of the blade being ceramic instead of metal is so that it DOESN'T cut you.  The "Slice" has opened in my pocket as well but I was never hurt.  I really like this product.

Blade is great for cutting,but I have ordered pointed blades,it’s a shame the cutter does not lock in out position,and did not retract so easily
