You don't necessarily have to use lining paper but do it. If you do then make sure you're not using a water based paste for it because when you put this stuff over the top it's gonna peel the lining paper away when it gets damp. Don't use too much paste, this stuff will get soggy and it's hard to work with and easier to tear if it's soggy. I would recommend putting the paste on lining paper and then putting this wallpaper on it. Lining up the pattern can be done by math or by eyeballing it like I did because it's not always cut straight on the sides from the factory. I would actually put more paste than needed over the side next to the last piece so that I could stick the new one in place and line it up before doing my cuts. That's just me tho and you might be better at math than me.
