The picture of the light circuit indicates they are normally open, without magnet.** A: You are correct. Almost all of the reed switches on Amazon universally have the NO/NC descriptions backwards. Even the guy who responded to you about his RV steps was mistaken as his application would require a normally closed switch (ie. door opening and removing the magnet would allow the current to flow). I think the big misunderstanding is these vendors (and some people) think the "normal" position is with a magnet adjacent the reed switch. It is not. **Q: What color are these? Pictures suggest black, but description says white.** A: Mine came in black **Q: Can this be used in a 12v application? I wanted to use ground to trigger a negative input(car alarm application)** A: Yes, I am also using it for 12V lights. You limit is going to be the 0.5amp load. **Q: Are these waterproof or at least water resistant?** A: Yes . It is water proof . The voltage and amperage were well within specs. I bought six because I needed four. I wired them in first by just twisting the wires. They worked. I then soldered and heat-shrunk the connections. They worked. I mounted them to the doors and cabinet, but one of them didn't work. I replaced it, and one of the others quit working after a day. I was convinced for a while that something was faulty with my wiring or mounting.
