Review: Fantastic Yirgecheffe! Best desertcart Coffee Order to date! - We have ordered several Lavassa green coffees and have been reasonably satisfied given the price point. However, where Yirgacheffe is concerned, they don't even come close to the FRC green coffee! I'm surprised the reviews for the other varietals offered by FRC are all mixed together in one review pool. I've only found one other review for Yirge. After having gone through a LOT of different green Yirgees from different distributors, this is the second best I've ever had and it is by far the most affordable! Or at least it was... it appears to have fallen off the desertcart Prime lists since I ordered it and received it... It was the equivalent of $6 per pound. They advertise the beans as Grade 2. I'm not sure what the limit is on quakers in grade 2. In roasting two cups of beans I found maybe 7 or so beans to reject before roasting (bug damage, discoloration or under ripe). After roasting them I probably found 10-12 quakers. That seems a bit high for Grade 2 to my inexperienced self, but that was far fewer than other "good quality" Yirgees I've roasted, especially Lavassa. We like our roast a light as possible while still achieving full bean flavor. 1:20 after first crack has yielded marvelous results with this bean! I've only roasted one Yirge that was better. Floral and citrusy notes abound. The Lavassa Yirge we had to roast quite a bit more just to get any flavor out of it, and we were never happy with the result. So this was cheaper, better quality beans and a much livelier and enjoyable cup than Lavassa. Thank you (ironically named) Fresh Roasted Coffee for such wonderful unroasted coffee! Hopefully by the time we're out, this will be back on Prime at the lower price point. Even if it wasn't (depending on price) I certainly consider ordering it again anyway.
Review: Great Yirgacheffe beans! - As a relatively new roaster, I started with Sweet Maria's and Burman's sample packs which each carry shipping charges. Some decent roasts there but nothing that really impressed. FRC is well reviewed as are yirgacheffe beans generally, so I gave these a shot. Using my Fresh Roast 500, I've found this formula to yield the best results to get to a full city roast: 1 minute on low, 6.5 minutes on high with the fan on high the whole time. Let sit 12-24 hours before brewing. The aroma and flavor once brewed are fantastic, very flavorful with a slight fruity undertone. The only downside to these beans are that they're very chaffy. Even at FC there is still a lot of chaff left which isn't a huge deal and doesn't affect the brew but something to be aware of. I like these better than any beans I got from the aforementioned bean sellers. I may try the Colombian beans from FRC next. I much prefer buying these on desertcart and am glad I took a chance here.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are these beans wet or dry processed?**
A: These beans are wet processed/fully washed.

**Q: How old are the Columbian Supremo green beans?**
A: A date is not on the package but I can tell you after having roasted hundreds of pounds of beans (over 10 years of roasting) that the beans that were shipped to me were not old .

**Q: how fresh are these beans? i.e. when were they harvested, dried etc.?**
A: If they are not shriveled or covered in mold, you can trust that they are ready for roasting. In a covered container or burlap sack, they will keep indefinitely in a dark cool place. Roast enough for a few days or a week because they are best when freshly roasted. Because of medication, I have had to cut back on drinking coffee - even decaf - so the last beans were purchased three years ago. I only indulge once a week so I roast enough beans for two pots and enough to serve expected guests for one week. I usually buy 3-5 pounds at a time. Always get compliments on the coffee I serve.

**Q: What grade is this coffee? High grade doesen't mean anything...**
A: Kochere is a small area within the well-known Yirgacheffe coffee-growing region of Ethiopia. Located in the SNNPR (Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region) of southern Ethiopia, Kochere is just south of the town of Yirgacheffe and is 250 miles southwest of Addis Ababa. The area contains washing stations where local farmers can bring their coffee for processing after it is harvested. The iron-rich acidic soil and high altitude of the region are ideal for growing specialty coffee and the Kochere district is known for producing some of the most lively Yirgacheffe coffees in the region.
