I took it a step further by adding a parabolic reflector that’s for a different drone that I have. So now it’s got the complete yagi-uda setup and anyone who thinks this doesn’t help is doing something wrong. It’s not a miracle worker but you will definitely get 2000 to 5000 feet further out, especially with the way I have it set up, check my picture. One more thing, you need to change the transmission settings to manual and make sure you’re on the 5.8 ghz in the settings of the go fly app for this antenna to give you the most distance. If you leave it on auto when the drone automatically switches to 2.4 ghz due to interference this won’t be helping you at all, and the signal will suddenly drop out. So with manual and 5.8 selected it’ll never drop off. I’ve gotten out to 15k feet with my mini 3 before I chickened out and turned around, due to the battery tripping me out, not because the signal was low, and yes, of course it was with a spotter, blah blah blah. Every pic shows the antennae vertical. Shouldn't that be detrimental?** A: I rarely rant in my reviews, but I’m an engineer and so this is an exception. This is not a Yagi antenna. It’s a toy that doesn’t work but kind of looks Yagi-ish. A real Yagi requires a precisely sized and located radiator element, to couple with reflector elements, all of which also need to be of an exact size and location. The existing antennas inside your controller are not designed to be part of a Yagi antenna. The obviously non-yagi sized exterior reflectors do mostly nothing, though if they got the size exactly wrong they would reduce your range. With line of sight and low humidity and with the stock controller, I’ve seen guys easily get 5 km or more from a Mavic Pro or Mini 2. i’ve never tried it with my Mini 2 because it’s illegal in the USA. Even if you don’t care about that, if you’re getting less range it’s because it’s too humid or you don’t have line of sight. The microwave signal from your controller is blocked by anything solid or with water in it. That includes foliage, water vapor in the atmosphere, concrete, steel, even glass. If you have line of sight and low humidity you’ll run out of battery before you run out of range. If you don’t have line of sight and low humidity even a real Yagi would do you very little good. And this is most certainly not a real Yagi. OK, putting away the soapbox now. **Q: How does this work when none of the elements actually contact the controller's antenna, and the metal elements don't contact each other?** A: This doesn’t work. It actually worsened my sigmas as it blocks the real antennas. Save yourself some money and a bad experience. **Q: Will this work with a hood shade for phone?** A: Sure....well it works fine on mine. With this antenna I can get 4 or 5 houses further down the street before things start to go south. In a area out away from all the subdivisions it does seem to work very well I can fly across a hay field, totally lose sight of the drone and still control it and the cameras keep sending great pictures.
