Why are these so much cheaper than other brands in my hardware store? What's the catch?** A: The reason that these are so inexpensive is that the rating is 1 micron NOMINAL. It does not state this in the ad, but when you receive that filters, it is clearly stated on the label (but not on the online label). Here is the definition for clarity: Absolute: Filter Rating meaning 99.9% of the particles larger than a specified micron rating will be trapped on or within the filter. Nominal: Filter Rating indicating the approximate size particle, the majority of which will not pass through the filter. If you want Absolute rating, you will pay $75 or more for a single filter. I use these filter to clarify home made wine and they are perfect for that. **Q: Where are these filters made please ?** A: on the main water pipe. But besides the filter , it has a dedicated device that comes that you need to install **Q: Is this filter really 1 micron?** A: Yes, this filter seems to catch particles down to 1 micron. We have very fine black sand particles in our water. The 5 micron filter lets some through, but the 1 micron is very effective. **Q: What is the efficiency of these filters? I don't see a rating which makes me believe they're bad (which coincides with my experience with them).** A: My implementation may not be common. I use these to filter collected rainwater for my chicken drinking nipples. They are rated at 1 micron which is more than sufficient for my needs, i.e., particulates that may get past "first flush" in the collectors. Since I use a gravity feed flow, they are not under pressure. Per the description, they last 20K-60K gallons but that is very dependent on the quality of water.
