Is this the updated model? They seemed to have recalled the other ones and i would want the second gen

I bought this in early March. Although Weber made things right (see my review), Amazon sold and shipped me the original design. Weber tried to get these back from retailers, but they didn't actually recall it and it's shipping with the same SKU, so it's still possible Amazon and other retailers may be selling the prior design models. (Currently out of stock on Amazon as I write this response). On the other hand, in the event you end up with an older design, Weber can probably get you squared away quickly if you call customer support. It took maybe 3-4 exchanges with customer support but I got through to a VP that overnighted me a kit with the revised stand. I suspect they'll improve their customer support training in this regard so that it doesn't take this kind of effort from either party.

Whats the difference between the kamado vs normal summit charcoal?

Assuming you have an E6 with the revised cart to address the wobbliness reported by many when the E6 was first released (Weber will ship you an upgraded kit for free) and you're comparing it the smaller non-table Summit grill weber produced several years ago (SKU 18301001), the main difference is this costs about 500 dollars less and lacks the propane ignition system. The fundamentals of the stand and the grill are basically identical otherwise. There are some other differences, but those are minor and in my opinion it really comes down to paying 500 bucks for gas ignition. I have this feature on my Weber performer kettle, which I basically never use, so I don't think it's worth it (some people say they do tho). Other differences I'm aware of (1) the deflector plate is one piece now whereas the original more expensive grill has a hinged design so you can add fuel/wood midcook without having to remove the deflector in theory (2) the wheels are a bit different (I actually prefer the swivel casters on the new e6 cart to the two rear plastic wheels on the original). For me, the E6 is basically a no-brainer given the savings. The larger cart models with built-in side tables (S6 and original Summit Charcoal Grill Center) took a bit more consideration, but the price increase is huge (700-1000 dollars). I have a large table behind my E6 (a place to put food when I'm adding or removing food from the grills), so I don't miss the side table much. I think the E6 is an excellent value when compared to Weber's other offerings here and all the competing ceramic kamado products (e.g., big green egg, kamodo joe, etc).

Is there anyway you can tighten up the lid damper? When I open the lid it spins to a different position so im constantly adjusting it. Thanks

This is a weakness of this otherwise terrific multipurpose cooker. Others have suggested that a few slow cooks will solve the problem well, it hasn’t for me & I average a 10-12 hour smoke a week. What has helped me it to find a position when the black knob in in the back which reduces the effects of gravity. Just need to develop a habit of double checking the damper as soon as you close the lid.
