The system has a multi-speed power transformer, which plugs into an AC outlet. You control the speed of the fan, using this transformer, which can be set to any one of 5 different speeds.A raised airchamber base lets the fan remove air from the entire area (9-3/4" x 3.5") under the mounting plate.The fan unit adds only 1-1/2 inches to the width of your DVR, and only needs another 1/4 inch for airflow (1-3/4 inches total).Even when running at 1/2 speed, this fan unit can move a volume of air equal to least 10 times your Dish DVR per minute (once every 6 seconds!). It will quietly pull the hot air from the chassis and exhaust it out the side. It has a high-quality, low-noise 80mm fan, with super-quiet Fluid Dynamic bearings. The fan is integrated into a raised air-chamber base, which allows the fan to pull air from all your DVR's side vents over an area of 9-3/4" x 3.5". In addition, you control the speed of the fans, with the multi-speed power controller. Recommended fan speeds for this system: The fan is rated at 10db while moving 16 cubic feet of air per minute at 1/2 speed, or 13db & 21CFM at 2/3 speed. With component cooling, slow (and quiet) are the way to go! Other available speeds: 1/4 speed = 7db/8CFM, 3/4 speed = 16db/23CFM, full speed = 19db/32CFM.
