This unit is best suited for tents with good venting, outdoors, etc. For permanent install you would want some sealant around pipes. The door could use a good seal as well to further control the venting. Could it be used in small home ? Any safety concerns** A: I put mine in the fireplace, cut the legs off to be about 3" long and got some articulating 4" stove-pipe angles to get the smoke up the chimney. I then used the first piece of stove pipe that came with this and moved the flue to the bottom. Want no or very little smoke? BEFORE YOU OPEN THE FRONT STOVE DOOR - open the flue all the way - then open the draft louvers in the front - let it draft for a minute then open the door. I've had VERY little smoke get in. But - it is IMPORTANT to make sure the flue is intalled or the fire will burn VERY fast and the stove-pipe will get VERY hot. When everything is closed down the sides and top of the stove can reach 700 degrees easily - but the stove pipe is about 250-350 degrees. I have a digital temperature gage and check regularly. See my review for my setup. **Q: at the very bottom and front, how far apart are the feet of the legs? going to get a drip pan and need to know how large it needs to be** A: Here's a thought....why not put patio blocks under the entire stove !That way, you can make sure the area around the outside of the legs is protected also !! **Q: “Is this stove a cheap chinese knockoff of the original american made cylinder stove?** A: Absolutely not!!!! I bought this for emergency uses....but used it once to test it out. I was very surprised how heavy it was. I expected some cheap tin like box......but it is very heavy and solid. The legs could be a little more stable but with some tinkering I know I could sturdy them up a little. **Q: What is the actual hole size for the pipe... I want to use actual stove pipes not that retractable thing it came with** A: A strong 4-15/16". Thats what mine measures anyway. I have used about 12 times now in below 0 temps and haven't been cold once. If you have it choked properly it burns long enough that you only need to restock it once in the middle of the night. This will last for a long time, it's nice and beefy. The racks on the side are amazing to have. They are great for drying socks/gloves after a day in the bush and also handy for warming up food. Talk about heat, this stove rips! I have boiled big pots of water accidently. I put water on to warm up and cranked the stove open and next thing you know it was boiling over. Awesome stove.
