I use it to quickly thaw out frozen water pipes and to thaw out cables on my tractor. Works great... **Q: is it normal for it to smoke even after a few uses?** A: My second one smoked a lot the first time, and it ended up going out after 2.5 months. My first one lasted 37 months, and I do not recall that it smoked much the first time. **Q: What type of warranty does this have?** A: The warranty is 1 year, but Porter-Cable published an update to their warranty, stating many of their products will be under warranty up to 3 years and free service for worn parts for up to one year. But I'm not sure if this extended warranty applies to the heat gun.
