I can also place hay at the front, it is so spacious. The door flap is removable, should your pet prefer not to have one. It comes with a filter on top, which I do not need to use for my rabbit, but, probably useful for a cat. The decent sized door space allows me to remove litter easily. The top and base clip together for a full clean. There was a choice of colours, both choices seem to suit most home decor styles. I found out after delivery that it is ACTUALLY 22 long-19.7 Wide- 18.5 high. I measure over 19 inches at it's widest point. with the lid on. For me this is a problem since I ordered 2 expecting them to properly fit in the allocated space. They don't fit. Be warned, the size is NOT CORRECT. **Q: Can the flap come off? My cats prefer an open door.** A: Yes, easy to remove clear flap (I did this for my big cats, 18 and 17 pound), and you can either 1) fold back the gray flap--which you will do when you clean, or 2) permanently remove the gray flap w/filter. Your choice, **Q: is it easy to clean?** A: Yes, the top flap folds up and leaves a large opening for you to get in there and clean. It's the best box we've had. Very sturdy and plenty of room. **Q: Does the top fit IN the bottom or OVER the bottom pan? Ones that fit OVER the bottom pan seem to leak when my lazy girl doesn't squat! thanks.** A: The top does fit over the bottom pan, but it's quite snug - much better than the store brands. My smallest cat weighs 4.5kg and she couldn’t get out, so it’s not like the door sticks just a bit. Other reviewers on the internet have also noted this issue. I bought two Moderna cat litter boxes at the same time as the Catit and they are of equal quality and the doors work.
