On the non standard roll then the inside roll can be larger, the snapping motion should still help this to work. I have gone and tested rolls we have here and they are working correctly **Q: What is the bottom made of? Is there a plastic or rubber bottom? –Wonder what would happen if water got trapped underneath.** A: The bottom is a pad made of something like rubber foam. It feels kind of like craft foam kids would cut shapes out of but sturdier. If it gets wet, it dries quickly - this happens to me often as my faucet is high, so water splashes out of the sink. It has never been an issue, and I'm quite OCD about the kitchen. If it got wet, you could just dry it off with a paper towel or towel. This is the best paper towel holder I've ever had and I've had it for a few years. It looks really nice and you can easily get a paper towel off with one hand. I highly recommend it! **Q: I just received this item; it has a nasty smell coming from the plastic. Has anyone had this problem, and if so does the smell go away? Thanks.** A: I have no smell coming from the rubberized black center, or noticed one when I received it, it maybe the newness of the recently made formed rubber center or base of the holder. **Q: The rod that holds the paper towels is becoming loose and wobbles back and forth.
